About Me
Hi, I’m Georgia, an Australian full-time traveller with endometriosis and fibromyalgia (and an array of other ailments that come with those diseases). Even when I’m too unwell to travel, I spend my days planning the next adventure.
Health professionals have always been quick to tell me that travelling is not something I should be dreaming about, let alone doing, and to set realistic goals. Focus on getting a 9-5 job, going to bed at the same time every day and joining local support groups.
But what happens when the very concept of routine, is detrimental to your mental health and that some days planning the next adventure is often the only reason you can find to get out of bed?
Why I Started Chronic Adventures
Over the years I have scoured the web for tips and stories from women travelling with chronic illness and found very little.
So many support groups for chronic illness work on awareness campaigns only. This is important work, however, it’s only one side of the coin.
I believe that everyday unwell women are achieving incredible things, but struggle to find the space to express that without being disregarded as “not really that sick”.
This has motivated me to create The Chronic Adventures. A community that exists purely to support, inspire and understand what it means to travel with chronic illness. From the days when you manage to climb a mountain to the ones when you can’t get out of bed.
How I travel
How I have travelled over the years has changed, and probably will continue to change as I learn how to manage my illness, but some things remain the same.
I prioritise budget-friendly, environmentally conscious and ethical travel. I’ll always choose public transport over a taxi, a train over a plane and a long dinner with a new friend over ticking off attractions on a list. My absolute favourite days have all occurred when I least expected it.
I travel slower than the average traveller, sometimes spending weeks in a city that others spend 2 days. I have previously travelled through Southeast Asia, India and Africa and I'm currently on a year-long adventure through Eastern Europe.
